The Politically Incorrect Show - 01/03/2000

[Music - Die Fledermaus]

Good afternoon, Kaya Oraaa & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show on the free speech network, Radio Pacific, for Wednesday March 1, proudly sponsored by Neanderton Nicotine Ltd, the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit, & excellence, against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.

[Music up, music down!]

In response to yesterday's editorial about the popularity of Comrade Clark's government & the resurgent tide of socialism engulfing the country I received the following e-mail:

"The workers flag is deepest red!!!! All she needs to do is demolish the rotton ECA [Employment Contracts Act], restore the unions then we again can persecute the rotton businessmen Ken Douglas will be put on trial for being a lackey to the ECA and selling us out some years ago. The Dangled one in charge of WINZ will be humiliated and sacked, anyway she always was a cheap little Harlot. GO Helen rip apart everything that is Capitalism, enslave and eat the rich then dump their carcasses down the Viaduct basin that rotton hive of money and capitalists."

Assuming this is serious, and seeing the name of the sender persuaded me that it is, I am at a loss to understand how a mentality such as this can live with itself. Presumably this person thinks Joe Stalin was a wimp. As it happens, I too believe that the ECA should go - not to be replaced by anything. Where employment involves a contract, it should be covered by contract law. That is all. The ECA did bring a measure of freedom into the labour market, enabling a variety of bargaining processes & ending the monolithic stranglehold of the unions over our workplaces. It brought an end to the wearisome holding of the country to ransom by workers on the Cook Strait ferries every holiday time as they demanded even more outlandish sums for even less work. It brought an end to the reign of terror of industrial thugs with North English accents. That is the era to which my correspondent brazenly wishes us to return. But the ECA also gave unwarranted powers to the Employment Court & made it virtually impossible for employers to fire anybody without being liable for large sums of money for hurt feelings, humiliation, loss of mana, etc.. So yes, it should go, but not to be replaced by the mandated collectivism that Comrade Clark & the Commissars are proposing to put in its place.

Ken Douglas a capitalist lackey? I suspect that it's more a case of his being mellowed by his close friendship with Roseanne Meo, former president of the Employers Federation. Unfortunately, he seems to have picked up Roseanne's abominable predilection for Politically Correct corporate-speak by which much of private enterprise, to its lasting shame, has been seduced. He no longer talks about the dictatorship of the proletariat; he talks about "inputs" & "throughputs" & "paradigms." For that he SHOULD assuredly be shot, WITHOUT a trial, for atrocities against the English language. That would take care of Christine Rankin as well.

As for the rotten capitalists who infest the Viaduct Basin, my correspondent is quite right. It should never be forgotten that that capitalist pig Michael Fay started all this by financing a New Zealand challenge all those years ago. And look at the place now. All those filthy yachts from tax havens like the Cayman Islands. All those restaurants & bars, creaming it. All that obscene laughter & excitement. All those people enjoying themselves. The Village should be razed to the ground, or the water, as the case may be.

But my correspondent should take heart. Salvation is at hand. Comrade Neanderton now has his Ministry for Economic Development. The delights of Five-Year Plans & Seven-Year Plans await. There is a golden future for steel production in Eketahuna. And for the unions. Ah, those most blessed unions.

With or without global warming, I have a feeling the country is sunk.
