The Politically Incorrect Show - 01/12/2000
[Music - Die Fledermaus]
Good afternoon, Kaya Oraaa & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show on the free speech network, Radio Pacific, for Friday December 1, proudly sponsored by Neanderton Nicotine Ltd., the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit, & excellence, against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.
[Music up, music down!]
Sometime quite soon, there will be an addition to my Free Radical web site, one that I'm very, very excited about. It will be the site for SOLO - Sense of Life Objectivists. It will be a sanctuary of joy & uplift, of the best within us & among us. It will be a celebration of life itself. It will be a recognition of the fact that Objectivism is not just a set of beliefs - reality, reason, individualism, romanticism - but a sense of life & a way of life, open-ended & ascending.
I contend that for too much of its short history Objectivism has not lived up to this. Or rather, ObjectivISTS have not lived up to this. Too many have treated their philosophy as an intelligent person's religion, a series of catechisms to be learned by rote & recited robotically as & when required, a substitute for genuinely independent judgement & the soaring, blazing emotions that flow from it. Too many have misconceived it, severing their intellect from their feelings, treating reason & passion as mutually exclusive, turning themselves into lifeless, platitudinous automatons - utterly contrary to its actual content & its founder, Ayn Rand's, stated intent. Too many have formed around themselves, in the words of one Objectivist, a "protective shell of memorized slogans and ideals kept on rationalistically, rather than lived, in the gut." SOLO will present Objectivism with brain, heart AND gut, for those who want to suck the marrow out of life.
Much of SOLO's focus, appropriately, will be on art, for art is where "sense of life" finds its form & its expression. Accordingly, SOLO will strive to capture the spirit of the following, from Atlas Shrugged:
"The music of Richard Halley's Fifth Concerto streamed from his keyboard, past the glass of the window, & spread through the air over the lights of the valley. It was a symphony of triumph. The notes flowed up, they spoke of rising & they were the rising itself, they were the essence & the form of upward motion, they seemed to embody every human thought & action that had ascent as its motive. It was a sunburst of sound, breaking out of hiding & spreading open. It had the freedom of release & the tension of purpose. It swept space clean & left nothing but the joy of unobstructed effort. Only a faint echo within the sounds spoke of that from which the music had escaped, but spoke in laughing astonishment at the discovery that there was no ugliness or pain & there never had had to be. It was the song of an immense deliverance."
Yes, SOLO is coming. The next time I speak of it will be to announce that it's here.
